University of Texas at Dallas // Website Redesign

A quirky school that takes pride in being nerdy, UT Dallas worked with VisionPoint Marketing to better showcase the school’s energetic brand and personality on the web. The driven students, incredible facilities, and a creative spirit inspired a dynamic site with interactivity and animation woven in. As the lead designer on this project, I carried out the initial conception to the final stages of design. We delivered multiple page types that achieve the client’s goals of increasing brand awareness while adhering to UX/UI and accessibility principles. Through collaboration with the creative director, designers, strategies, and developers in this process, I produced an elegant yet vibrant design that UT Dallas has expressed much satisfaction with thus far.

After thoroughly grasping UT Dallas’ goals and strategies for this website redesign, the creative director and designers brainstormed visual directions for three concepts to present to the client. The energy and vibrancy of UT Dallas sparked many creative explorations that heavily utilized animation and interactivity. I envisioned text and photos floating over one another or fading in and resizing as you scroll down the page. Bright colors, bold type, and playful textures were my go-to. The final product of these explorations was a screen-by-screen approach, where the initial viewport functions as a carousel housing all the homepage content, so there is no vertical scrolling.

After many check-ins with the creative director and project team, the design concepts were presented to the client, who pushed back heavily on the use of too much animation and interactivity. So we went back to the drawing board and presented more toned down, but still visually dynamic and energetic designs to the client. These went over much better, and after many iterations of refinements, we achieved the homepage design that you saw above.
