Kesari // Confectionary Branding & Website Design

Kesari is a fictitious confectionary based in Downtown Raleigh, NC featuring various traditional sweets from Sri Lanka. The business aims to preserve Sri Lankan culture by bringing the local community together through authentic delicacies. In a city where diversity thrives, Kesari is tailored towards Raleigh locals who are adventurous and looking to broaden their global palate. The confectionary has a modern atmosphere marked by elements that are reminiscent of Sri Lankan heritage and culture.

Kesari’s aesthetic is marked by thin-stroked typography that speaks to the simple and modern nature of the company, while the curvilinear patterns reference the company’s roots in Sri Lankan culture. The brand gold alludes to the dominant tone found in many of the traditional sweets, and when paired with the pastel blue, creates a soft and sophisticated feel.

Branding Kesari began with writing a creative brief, the guiding document that identifies the target audience, addresses a gap in the community for this type of business, and takes into account the current market in Raleigh, NC.

After creating the brief, I started the design process off by collecting inspiration online, and then creating a mood board of what I envisioned for Kesari’s environment and aesthetic. Soon after, I started cranking out logo concepts and ultimately fleshing out the brand system to encompass a variety of materials such as the menu, stationary set, package design, and website. The creation of these materials evolved from rough sketches to digitally refined designs in Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign before becoming the final products. Kesari’s suite of materials work together as a system and tie back to not only a similar visual style, but also to the strategies in the creative brief.

Below are process shots showing the initial concepting of the brand, logo, stationary, menu, and website.
